Felipe Martinez (he/him/él) is a higher educational professional with over 15 years of experience in areas of student retention, access, student engagement, and international education.
Currently, Dr. Martinez serves as Executive Director for CIRCLE at the University of Washington—Seattle. In his role, Dr. Martinez is responsible for the coordination and implementation of programs and services to support UW international students. To achieve this goal, Dr. Martinez collaborates with a variety of departments to streamline communication and holistic support for students. Prior to this role, Dr. Martinez worked at the UW and other institutions on student success and retention initiatives to support students on their path toward graduation. His research interests include educational equity, globalization of higher education, and the experience of first-generation college students within the university setting.
Dr. Martinez holds a teaching appointment in the UW College of Education in Leadership in Higher Education (LHE) program. He has taught courses on Leadership and Management in Higher Education as well as Student Populations in Higher Education. Dr. Martinez earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master’s and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California (USC).
