Derek Kindle is the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, a leading research extensive flagship institution with an enrollment of over 45,000 students. Derek provides leadership in planning, developing, executing and assessing a strategic enrollment management plan for the university. The Vice Provost for Enrollment Management is responsible for the Division of Enrollment Management, which is comprised of over 220 team members across the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, the Office of Student Financial Aid, the Office of the Registrar, and the central management office of the division.

With over 20 years of higher education experience, Derek has worked in admissions, financial aid, bursar and enrollment management. A nationally recognized expert in higher education, Mr. Kindle serves in several national higher education organizations, including the National Association for College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), the American Education Research Association (AERA), the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Executive Roundtable and the Governor of Wisconsin’s Taskforce on Student Debt.  He currently serves on the College Board’s Midwestern Regional Council and Enrollment Leaders Group. Previously, Derek was a member of the U.S. Department of Education’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) design team and part of the early Government Accountability Office’s study of ways to simplify the FAFSA.

Mr. Kindle joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison in July 2016 as Director of Student Financial Aid and was responsible for the University’s administration nearly $480M in federal, state, institutional and private aid. Derek helped launch the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, a unique research-practice partnership led by a faculty researcher that conducts original research and evaluation on issues related to college opportunity and student success.

Mr. Kindle earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors at Howard University in Washington, DC.
